Deborah Cornell
Professor of Art, Printmaking; Chair of Printmaking
Deborah Cornell’s work in print, video, installation, and collaborative multimedia has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Solo and 2-person exhibitions include Krakow, Dubai, China, Istanbul, Melbourne, Reykjavik, New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. Her work has been selected for over 200 exhibitions internationally and in the US, including the Krakow Print Triennial, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, ICA Boston, Novosibirsk Biennial, Hangzhou Contemporary Art Museum, and exhibitions in New York, Philadelphia, New Orleans, Chicago, Cuba, India, Bulgaria, China, and Melbourne.
Her work has been supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Deya Majorca Archeological Foundation, with invited residencies at ProyectoACE Buenos Aires, Frans Masereel Center, and the Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice. She has published articles in Grapheion (Czech Republic), Impact Printmaking Journal (UK), Contemporary Impressions (Atlanta GA), the College Book Arts Association Journal, Impact 9 Conference Proceedings (Hangzhou China) and others, and her work is featured in “Printmaking Today” and “60 Years of North American Prints. She lectures widely in North America and abroad including the UK, Australia, Russia, Turkey, Argentina, Italy, and Canada. Her work is included in the collections of the Hangzhou Art Academy, Yinchuan Art Museum, SMTG Collection, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Purdue University Museums, Boston Public Library, RISD Museum, IBM, and others.
Cornell is Head of Printmaking of the School of Visual Arts at Boston University. Previously she was Director of the Experimental Etching Studio and held appointments as Visiting Artist at Radcliffe College, and Director of Visual Arts for the Boston University Tanglewood Institute.
Creative Works
Eclipse/Phase, a collaborative video, sound, and print work has been shown in Krakow Poland, Perth Australia, Fort Worth Texas, Rhode Island School of Design Museum Providence, and online at Impact Hong Kong and Siggraph Electronic Arts.
Awards
Cornell’s honors include the Grand Prix D’Honneur from the SMTG, for her contributions to the discipline of print and the Grand Prix of the Krakow Print Triennial 2015, the only artist to receive both awards. She has also received a Bunting Fellowship from Harvard, and Grand Prize from the LA Center for Digital Art.
