How to make CARE Educational Videos

Making effective educational videos can be daunting to start. Below are links to videos that discuss all of the tricks and tips that we would have wanted to know before we started making videos!

There are four main steps (and tools) that we follow when making videos:

  1. Planning is the most important part of making an effective video. “Post-production” is not nearly as important as pre-production (planning a scripting). The following webinar covers many important parts of the planning and scripting process: Webinar on Planning Videos.
  2. We record our videos using Explain Everything (no, they aren’t compensating us for the endorsement). Explain Everything is powerful and complex — that is both a big advantage and a significant challenge. The following webinar covers a lot of the tools offered by Explain Everything and some practical examples: Webinar on Explain Everything (and another webinar on Explain Everything).
  3. Pre-production is most important, but you may want to also do a little post. We’re Mac people and so we use iMovie. The following webinar covers how to do some basic post-processing that makes a big difference: Webinar on iMovie.
  4. Videos are great. Videos with embedded active-learning are better. We use Edpuzzle to take our video lessons to the next level. Also, it’s free. The following webinar covers how to do some great stuff with your videos (or other videos from Youtube!) with Edpuzzle: Webinar on Edpuzzle.

Happy video-making!
