CIMS Welcomes New Visiting Assistant Professor
The Cinema & Media Studies Program is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Alex Denison, this academic year’s Visiting Assistant Professor. Dr. Denison received his Ph.D. in Film Studies from the University of Iowa where he studied the aesthetic and political ramifications of digital cinema.
In addition to film scholarship, he works in film programming and on film productions. His latest work “Bill and Joe Go Duck Hunting” and “Angeleyes” are available to view online.
He will teach 2 courses each semester for the program. Take a look at the exciting courses he will teach in the Fall!
CI 367 – From Elemental Media to New Media
Survey of media history and our use of the term “medium,” from its origins in ancient Greece to refer to natural elements like fire or water to our contemporary conception of media as communication technologies.
CI 490 Analog vs. Digital Cinema
An exploration of the differences and similarities between analog and digital processes in film production, exhibition, and reception, with a focus on the first decade of the 21st century when digital technology became a viable alternative for filmmakers.
