David Castañón
Professor, ENG (ECE, SE)
David Castañón is a Professor and the former Chair of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (ECE) and co-founder of the Center for Information and Systems Engineering (CISE) at Boston University. He is deputy director of the National Science Foundation Engineering Research Center, the Bernard M. Gordon Center for Subsurface Sensing and Imaging Systems (CenSSIS), and Associate Director of the Department of Homeland Security ALERT Center of Excellence.
Dr. Castañón’s current research interests include: stochastic control, estimation and detection, combinatorial optimization and scheduling, inverse problems, and subsurface imaging.
He is actively involved in IEEE and has served in numerous leadership positions in the IEEE Control Systems Society, including President, receiving the Society’s Distinguished Member Award. He is also the adviser for Boston University’s Society for Hispanic Professional Engineers. David Castañón received his PhD degree in Applied Mathematics from MIT. He was chief scientist at ALPHATECH, Inc. in Burlington, MA until 1990, when he joined Boston University’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
