Dr. Deborah Carr (Department of Sociology and Center for Innovation in Social Science) at Boston University is accepting applications for one 2-3 year postdoctoral associate position, starting July 1 or September 1, 2022.

The postdoctoral associate will work closely with Dr. Carr on both collaborative and independent research projects focused on psychosocial factors that influence late-life health and well-being. The associate will receive mentoring, and have opportunities for publishing, presentations, and grant-writing training. The associate will have the opportunity to participate in the activities and programs in the Department of Sociology, Center for Innovation in Social Sciences, and other programs at Boston University consistent with the postdoctoral associate’s interests. The twelve-month annual salary is commensurate with NIH salaries. Health benefits are provided. The position is located on the Charles River Campus of Boston University.

Qualifications

By the start date, applicants should have a doctorate in sociology, demography, human development, psychology, gerontology, public health, or a related field. Candidates should have expertise in survey methodology and data analysis, with a preference given to candidates with experience using any of the following: Health and Retirement Study (HRS), Midlife in the United States (MIDUS), National Health and Aging Trends Study (NHATS), National Longitudinal Surveys of Youth (NLSY), Wisconsin Longitudinal Study (WLS), or international surveys of aging supported by the Gateway to Global Aging data platform. Must be proficient in a statistical software such as Stata, SPSS, SAS and/or R, and have knowledge of advanced statistical methods. The successful candidate should be self-motivated, detail-oriented, responsible, team-oriented, and creative, with excellent interpersonal, written communication, and organizational skills.
