JetteAlan Jette, PT, PhD co-directs the Evaluation and Dissemination Core at the Center for Health Services Training and Research. Dr. Jette, an international expert on rehabilitation and author of more than 230 manuscripts, brings a wealth of experience to CoHSTAR. Dr. Jette has been a principal investigator for many projects funded by the National Institutes for Health, National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, along with numerous contracts with healthcare organizations. Dr. Jette is a leader in developing rehabilitation outcome measures and has been engaged in health services research projects with HealthSouth, Kaiser Permanente, Cleveland Clinics, Johns Hopkins and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Dr. Jette chaired the IOM panel that authored the 2007 IOM report, The Future of Disability in America. His work has addressed the need to bring conceptual clarity to the measurement of patient-centered outcomes in a range of challenging clinical areas such as work disability, spinal cord injury, and neurological, orthopaedic, and geriatric conditions.

Dr. Jette has received numerous awards and honors, including the APTA McMillan Award and the Foundation for Physical Therapy Charles M. Magistro Distinguished Service Award. He is a member of the prestigious Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences and an APTA Catherine Worthingham Fellow.

Dr. Jette holds degrees from the State University of New York at Buffalo and the University of Michigan where he received both his Masters in Public Health and PhD in Public Health.

Professional Interests

Dr. Jette’s research interests include late-life exercise, evaluation of rehabilitation treatment outcomes, and the measurement, epidemiology, and prevention of disability.
