COM student lands front page Boston Globe story

For his final project, journalism graduate student John Hilliard ('15) achieved a feat many journalists strive for their entire careers—getting his story published on the front page of the Boston Globe.

The story was part of a semester-long project for the College of Communication's Data Storytelling course, taught by COM Professor Maggie Mulvihill. The course aims to teach journalism students how to obtain, analyze and use government and private sector data to write more powerful, effective stories. As his final project, Hilliard spent the fall semester investigating and writing about the current issue concerning federal funds used to repair juvenile youth programs and other court facilities operating in poor conditions. Professor Mulvihill started working on the project in 2013.
