Boston University is a member of Association of American Universities (AAU), an invitation-only group of 65 of North America’s most prestigious research universities, and is rated a top-tier “R1” university for research. In this tradition, COM research explores cutting-edge topics in all communication fields.

We are enhancing research that matters. Our Communication Research Center is sharpening focus on the challenge of mis- and disinformation. With the first grant award from BU’s Institute for Global Sustainability, COM researchers are exploring  the scope and impact of “climate lies” on public opinion.

We also appointed COM’s first-ever COM associate dean for research and established a task force to recommend ways to support researchers when considering tenure and promotion. We are creating a new, internal grant award program for promising research.

This panel brings together the perspectives of a first amendment professor of law, the former editor of a major newspaper and a scholarly researcher that has conducted studies about the flow of disinformation, to focus on the impact that disinformation and misinformation have on American society. The panelists will also explore what can be done to limit the influence of disinformation.
