COM Alum Inducted into National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ Silver Circle

Linda Polach (COM ’78), WGBH News’ award-winning Executive Managing Editor, was recently honored with the Silver Circle Award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) Boston/New England Chapter. The NATAS Silver Circle Awards recognizes veteran television professionals who have made significant contributions to their field for 25 years or longer.

After beginning her career as a high school teacher, Polach transitioned to journalism. While studying at COM she took a job at Boston’s WCVB-TV (Channel 5) leading to a 29-year tenure at the station. She served as news producer, executive producer and director of special projects, including live Boston Marathon coverage, during her time at WCVB. She received numerous accolades including severals Emmys, one in recognition of her coverage of the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger disaster.

Polach joined WGBH in 2007 as the executive producer of “Greater Boston with Emily Rooney” and “Beat the Press” for which she won a national Richards Award for Media Criticism in 2014. Polach has produced coverage for many of the major political debates, primaries and major party conventions. She also was influentional in the successful launch of the WGBH Studio at the Boston Public Library. “Throughout nearly 40 years working in local news, Linda has established herself not just as a leader in our newsroom, but also in our community at large,” said Phil Redo, WGBH General Manager for Radio.

Polach accepted her award at the gala ceremony on Wednesday, November 30th at the Seaport Boston Hotel.
