Five Things To Know About the New WTBU

WTBU Radio broadcast live from its new studio at 11 a.m., October 4, 2017, some 18 months after a fire destroyed the former studio in March 2016. This event marked a new chapter in the station's rich history. WTBU was among the first college radio stations in the country to start webcasting and has also won College Music Journal and Associated Press Journalism awards for music, news and sports programming. Here are five things to know about the new WTBU, from Kyle Davi ('18), general manager, and Jake Kassen, COM technical operations manager:

WTBU is the most modern college Radio Station in greater Boston having been rebuilt with the latest in Wheatstone AoIP equipment and processing. The studio layout and equipment is designed to replicate SirusXM flagship NYC's studios. (WTBU alumnus DJ Howard Stern (CGS’74, COM’76) invited the station's student board down to his XM studios to discuss rebuilding.)
WTBU's facilities include a large, open On-Air studio specifically geared for discussion and file based playback. The Live Performance studio is suitable for 1-10 musicians with the ability to record and mix 32 discrete channels.
All facilities were built with NPR-style acoustics to industry standard sound reinforcement specifications. The sound dampening doors weigh nearly 500 pounds!
WTBU archives all programing 24/7 and archives stay online for two weeks. The live stream works great on desktops and smartphones. The station broadcasts live 20 hours a day, seven days a week. Never miss a show.
WTBU DJs, staffers, and alumni are some of the most devoted at BU. For many, being a part of WTBU is the most important aspect of their time here. The station is entirely student-run with only minimal oversight from the faculty and staff. The 140 hours of weekly programming reflects the diversity of BU's student body.
