Students cover Obama’s health care speech

Students participating in the Washington Journalism Center program this semester had the opportunity to sit in the House of Representatives press gallery and hear President Barack Obama address a joint session of Congress on his health care reform plans on Sept. 9th.  Solomon Syed, a graduate broadcast student who is doing his internship with Cox Broadcasting in Washington, conducted interviews with members of Congress following the speech that were sent to Cox television stations around the country. Several print students also interviewed key members of Congress including Senators Judd Gregg and Olympia Snowe, and filed reaction stories for their papers. Joe Markman filed for The New Hampshire Union Leader, Jessica Leving for the Worcester Telegram & Gazette and Kase Wickman for the Bangor Daily News.
