Whether you are watching the news, a film, or a television show, we search for characters or people who look like us. But how often do people from the Latinx-Hispanic community see themselves in these various types of media? How often are their stories told authentically?

In 2021, U.S. Representative Joaquin Castro of Texas called out the media and Hollywood to change the narrative of Latinx and Hispanics. A United States Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) report showed less representation of Latinos in front of and behind the camera in major newsrooms, film, and television shows, despite the 2020 U.S. Census showing that Latinos made up approximately 19% of the U.S. population.

Our panelists will share their experiences and insights, provide tools for the media and marketing industry to do better, and advise Latinos looking to pursue a career in communications.
