Olivia Curtis is a PhD candidate in astronomy at Boston University. She received a BS in physics and a BA in mathematics from the University of South Florida where she studied the photometry and chemical composition of comets and active asteroids. Her current research interests involves studying cosmic voids in the universe’s large-scale structure. Voids are the largest, most underdense regions of space, and can reach up to 100 million light-years in diameter. Olivia’s dissertation work uses modern cosmological simulations to study galaxy evolution within voids to investigate the effect a galaxy’s location within the universe’s large-scale structure has on its formation and evolution. Outside of work Olivia enjoys playing the piano, going hiking and camping, playing video games, and keeping her cat out of trouble.
