Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 5/24/19
During the weekend of May 25th
- In recognition of Memorial Day there will be no work on the GSDM construction site this Sunday, May 26, and Monday, May 27. The following activities will, therefore, occur on Saturday, May 25.
- Workers will continue applying spray-on fireproofing material to the new structural beams and columns in the seven-story west addition.
- Crew members will continue constructing exterior walls for both of the new additions. Starting on the north addition, crews will be installing metal stud framing to support the different exterior façade finishes.
- A crane will be set up onsite to assist workers who are setting a new prefabricated stairway into the northeast corner of the west addition. This stairway will connect the basement, first, and second floors of the north addition.
During the weekend of May 28th
- The work platforms at the south, east, and north sides of the existing GSDM building will continue to support crews working on the new façade finish system. Drilling will continue on all three sides of the building for the installation of clips used to hold the new façade in place.
- Installation of new windows has begun on the south elevation. The new windows are being installed from the outside over the existing windows. Starting in late June through November 2019, crews will begin removing the existing windows from the inside and installing new window sills and shades. This work will occur in several small phases starting at the south side of the building. Planning for this phasing and associated temporary moves is now under way between the GSDM administration and the project team. Details will be communicated to all affected personnel and programs in the coming weeks.
- In the west connector spaces, installation of new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure will continue for new systems serving the seven-story west addition.
- Workers will also continue applying spray-on fireproofing material to the new structural beams and columns in the seven-story west addition.
- Since the temporary hoist on the south side of the west addition passed the state elevator inspection on Wednesday, it will now be used to transport workers and materials between floors in the west addition. This hoist will also help to reduce the construction use of the existing elevators for the remainder of phase 2.
- Crew members will continue installing metal stud framing and the exterior wall sheathing on the new additions. This is the next step in the process for making the new additions weathertight.
- Buildout of the two new student, resident, faculty, and staff elevators in the northwest corner of the west addition will continue. The focus for this week will be the construction of the machine room, which will house equipment for operating these elevators.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
