Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 6/14/19
During the weekend of June 15th
- The City of Boston has issued a permit allowing GSDM to temporarily close East Newton Street at its intersection with Albany Street on Saturday, June 15. This closure will allow crews to set up a crane in East Newton Street to hoist steel to the roof for a screen wall enclosing new mechanical equipment. Access to GSDM will not be affected by this operation.
- Construction of exterior walls for both the seven-story west and two-story north additions will continue, including the installation of metal stud framing to support the different exterior façade finishes.
- The framing and installation of interior walls in the seven-story west addition will also continue.
During the week of June 17th
- Workers will be on the work platforms at the south, east, and north sides of the existing GSDM building to continue installing clips and rails to hold the new building façades in place.
- Installation of new windows will continue on the south elevation. The new window frames are being installed from the outside over the existing windows. The final step will be to install the glass panels in the new frames, kicking off the interior work to remove the old windows from the inside, starting on June 27th on the south side of the building.
- In the west connector spaces, workers are making great progress on the installation of the new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection infrastructure, which will serve the seven-story west addition.
- Crews will continue installing metal stud framing and exterior wall sheathing on the new north and west additions in expectations of making the additions weathertight (fully enclosed from exterior weather elements).
- Buildout of the two new resident, student, faculty, and staff elevators in the northwest corner of the west addition will continue.
- Ironworkers will be installing support steel on the roof of the seven-story west addition for the new screen wall designed to enclose the mechanical equipment.
- Installation of the new roofing system on the seven-story west addition will is underway.
- Installation of the finishes for the exterior of the seven-story west addition will begin, starting with the brick being delivered to the site this week.
- Workers will continue installing the new window frames and glass on the first and second floors along East Newton and Albany Streets.
