Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 6/21/19

During the weekend of June 22nd

  • To make up for time lost due to inclement weather this week, crews will continue to install the new roofing system, and the air/vapor barrier, at the exterior walls for both the two-story north and seven- story west additions.
  • The framing and installation of interior walls in the seven-story west addition will continue.
  • On Sunday, crews will complete remaining Phase one tasks, including replacing the temporary eye-wash stations in central sterilization with permanent eye-wash fixtures. Crews will complete the connection of the dental vacuum exhaust vent installed during Phase one. This work will require a shutdown of the vacuum system.
  • On Sunday, preparations  for the installation of additional handrails on the porch of the new patient and visitor entrance will begin.
  • To ensure pedestrian safety and enhance the building’s front entrance, adjustment will be made to the granite steps and integrated planters throughout the week. Please be aware of directional signs and safety rails, while this work continues.

During the weekend of June 24th

  •  Workers will use platforms at the south, east, and north sides of the existing GSDM building to continue installing clips and rails to hold the new building façades in place.
  •  Installation of new windows will continue on the south elevation. The new window frames are being installed outside over the old windows. Once glass panels are placed in the new frames, the old windows will be removed from through the inside of the building.
  • In the west connector spaces, workers are making great progress on the installation of the new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection infrastructure, which will serve the seven-story west addition. The framing of interior walls will also continue.
  • Buildout will continue on the two new resident, student, faculty, and staff elevators in the northwest corner of the seven-story west addition.
  • Installation of the new roofing system on the two-story north addition and the seven-story west addition will continue.
  • Finishes for the exterior of the seven-story west addition will begin, starting with brick.
  • Workers will continue installing the new window frames and glass on the third floor along East Newton and Albany Streets.

As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
