Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 7/19/19

During the weekend of July 20th

  • GSDM will temporarily close East Newton Street at its intersection with Albany Street on Saturday, July 20 by permit of the City of Boston. This will allow crews to set up a crane on East Newton Street to hoist sections of window frames and glass for the building’s south elevation. Access to the school will not be affected.
  • Crews will continue working from platforms outside of the building to install glass in new window frames on the seven-story west addition. Crews will also continue installing finish systems on the north, east, and west elevations.
  • Fireproofing material will continue to be applied to the columns and beams on the first floor of the GSDM building.
  • Interior work in rooms 704B, 401, 401B, and 302 will also continue in order to turn these rooms back over to GSDM use as scheduled.
  • There will be a shutdown of the air handling system that serves the basement, first, and second floors from 6 am to 3 pm on Sunday, July 21. This is the first of several required off-hours shutdowns of this unit.

During the week of July 22nd

  • Work will continue on the installation of clips and rails that hold the new building façades and insulation in place on the two-story north and seven-story west additions.
  • With the final removal of the existing windows in rooms 704B, 401, 401B, and 302, work will proceed on the restoration and renovation of areas adjacent to the windows prior to the resumption of active GSDM use.
  • In the west connector spaces, framing of new walls and the installation of new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems will continue in the seven-story west addition.
  • Buildout of the two new resident, student, faculty, and staff elevators in the northwest corner of the seven-story west addition will continue.
  • Installation of the new roofing system on the two-story north addition will continue if weather permits.
  • Installation of the brick façade on the two-story north and seven-story west additions will continue.
  • Installation of new windows for the seven-story west addition will continue.
  • Now that new mechanical equipment has been installed on the roof of the seven-story west addition, crews will continue making the final power and piping connections to these units over the next several weeks.

As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
