Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 8/9/19
During the weekend of August 10th
- On the north, east, and west elevations, workers will continue installing glass in the new window frames on the outside of the GSDM building, and will continue working on the building’s finish systems. Taking advantage of a street shutdown on East Newton Street related to a different project, crews will also be installing new window frames along the south elevation of the new seven-story addition while other trades are not working in that vicinity.
- On the interior of the seven-story west addition, subcontractors will be focusing on the buildout of the two new elevators; framing and finishing interior walls; and forming and pouring the concrete for the first-floor structural columns.
- On Sunday, from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m., a building-wide electrical shutdown will again occur, enabling workers to remove portions of the existing power supply and convert them to the new service from Albany Street. Due to the extent of this shutdown, only public safety, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), and maintenance staff will be permitted in the building.
During the week of August 12th
- With the installation of the new windows progressing on the existing building, renovations will continue in rooms 705, 705 A and B, 708 A and B, 305 A, B and C, 208 B and C, 407 A, B, C and D, and room 212. Each day, working from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., workers will be removing the older windows; then during normal business hours, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., workers will continue making improvements to the ceilings and window sills, and installing new window shades.
- In the west connector spaces, wall framing will continue, as will installation of new mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems in the seven-story west addition. Walls on the second, third, fourth, and fifth floors will continue to be enclosed and finished.
- Buildout of the new elevator cabs will continue for the two new student, resident, faculty, and staff elevators.
- Installation of the brick façade and new windows on the seven-story west addition will also continue.
- Workers will begin painting the finished walls in the new bathrooms on the second and third floors of the seven-story west addition. Once the painting is complete, tiles will be installed.
- Workers will also continue adding the decorative paneling (“screen wall”) that will enclose the new roof-top mechanical equipment.
- Over the next several weeks, final power and piping connections will be made to the new mechanical equipment installed on the roof of the seven-story west addition.
