Howard Thurman Center – Construction Update – 10/18/19
During the week of October 21:
General:
Temporary signage is posted to help the public navigate through the first floor. The main building access is through the Essex Street entrance. A secondary entrance is located on the rear of the building near the ramp to the garage. The main stairwell from the parking garage and up through the fifth floor is primary means of access. The existing elevator will continue to remain functional throughout the entirety of the project. All stairwells are available for emergency egress. Temporary emergency egress signs are posted throughout.
Garage Level
- Fire alarm installation along with miscellaneous mechanical, electrical, and plumbing will continue.
- The installation of both the new building passenger elevator and the HTC elevators will continue.
- Generator testing will occur during the end of the week.
On the 1st Level
- Curtain wall steel will be installed.
- Installation of acoustic ceiling tile grid in offices will occur.
- Installation of millwork will continue.
- Painting of the ornamental ceiling, corridor, and classrooms will continue.
- Welding of the steel at the west canopy will continue.
- Air-handler balancing and testing will continue.
- Insulating of HVAC and mechanical piping will continue throughout the 1st level.
- There will be ongoing installation of light fixtures.
- Sprinkler heads in fire alarm closet will commence.
On the Mezzanine Level
- All MEP finish work will continue.
- Installation of remaining acoustical ceiling tiles will continue.
On the 2nd Level
- Temporary directional signage is placed to help the public navigate.
- Floor prepping within the construction zone has begun and will continue.
- Painting in both the common areas as well as construction will continue.
- Installation of millwork will continue.
- Installation of acoustic ceiling tile will continue.
- MEP finish work is ongoing and will continue for the next couple weeks.
- Sprinkler heads in fire alarm closet will commence.
On Levels 3, 4, and 5
- Ongoing installation of the fire alarm system will continue.
- Sprinkler heads in fire alarm closets will commence.
- The new building passenger elevator elevator installation is ongoing.
Exterior
- Granite and limestone will be installed at vestibule.
- Caulking and sealant of windows will continue.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
