Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 11/22/19
During the weekend of November 23:
- On Saturday and Sunday, work will continue throughout the interior of the seven-story west addition, with the focus on the new first-floor auditorium and student and resident lounge areas.
- On Saturday only, the exterior work will also continue on the north, east, and south elevations of the existing GSDM building façade. Crews will also be onsite to continue landscaping work between GSDM and the Newton Pavilion building, with the focus on restoring planters and preparing for new sidewalks.
During the week starting November 25:
- Site restoration along the perimeter of the building will continue on the north and west sides of the building, with the focus on formwork for new concrete planters, and on grading the areas to prepare for new sidewalks.
- On the exterior of the existing GSDM building, installation of decorative terracotta façade panels and faux wood trim panels will continue along the south, north, and east elevations.
- Crews will begin installing granite pavers as the finish material for the ramp, stairs, and landing at the new student, resident, faculty and staff entrance on East Newton Street.
Floor by floor progress:
- Due to the Thanksgiving Day holiday, there will be no work on site Thursday, November 28. Construction activities will resume on Friday, November 29.
- On the first floor of both the seven-story west and two-story north additions, installation of raised seating platforms in the auditorium will continue. The installation of terrazzo flooring and ceiling systems in the new student and resident lounge area will continue.
- On the second floor of the seven-story west addition, installation of furniture will continue.
- On the third floor of the seven-story west addition, installation of cabinets, counters, and flooring will continue.
- On the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors of the seven-story west addition, workers will continue installing ceiling tiles, mechanical and electrical devices, and finish flooring material. Case work (cabinets and counters) placement around the dental chairs and other work areas will continue as well.
- On the seventh floor of the seven-story west addition, workers will continue placing light fixtures and diffusers in the completed ceiling grid. Miscellaneous drywall finishing and painting will continue in a handful of areas. Installation of cabinets and counters will continue in the patient registration and reception areas.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
