Howard Thurman Center – Construction Update – 11/29/19
Week of December 2, 2019
General:
Temporary signage is posted to help the public navigate through the first floor. The main building access is through the Essex Street entrance. A secondary entrance is located on the rear of the building near the ramp to the garage. The main stairwell from the parking garage and up through the fifth floor is primary means of access. The existing elevator will continue to remain functional throughout the entirety of the project. All stairwells are available for emergency egress. Temporary emergency egress signs are posted throughout.
Garage Level
- The installation of the new passenger elevator will continue.
- Framing, insulating, and drywalling of storage rooms to continue.
- Insulation of mechanical duct and piping will continue.
- Installation of fencing around electrical gear will begin.
On the 1st Level
- Terrazzo stair tread installation will continue.
- Stripping and polishing of the terrazzo floor will be ongoing.
- Installation of bookcases and millwork at HTC stairwell will continue.
- Ornamental ceiling patching and painting will be completed.
- Installation of light fixtures will continue.
- Restoration of brass in the gathering space will begin.
- Installation of ceiling clouds in the event space will begin.
- Installation of HTC entrance from corridor will begin.
- Furniture installation will begin.
On the Mezzanine Level
- Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing punch-list will continue.
On the 2nd Level
- Temporary directional signage is placed to help the public navigate.
- Painting touchup will continue throughout.
- Completion of the folding glass partition wall in the commons.
- Furniture installation will be completed.
- Millwork will continue at the listening room.
- Installation of door hardware will begin.
- Corridor flooring will be completed.
On Levels 3, 4, and 5
- Fire Alarm testing and inspection will continue.
- The passenger elevator installation will be ongoing.
- Framing of Elevator vestibules will continue.
- Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing punch-list will continue.
Exterior
- Installation of signs and lighting will be completed.
- West vestibule canopy entrance will begin.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
