Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 2/21/20

During the weekend of February 22:

  • On Sunday, night-shift work will continue, starting at 10 p.m. and continuing until 6 a.m.; during this time, workers will continue to install new telephone and data communications in the existing GSDM building. Activities will include transferring the telecommunications service to connections throughout the new north and west additions. Painting touch-ups  will continue  in the existing building at the location of new and relocated signage. These night shifts will continue each week from Sunday through Thursday until early March.

During the week starting February 24:

  • As the project team prepares to commence use of the new seven-story west and two-story north additions to GSDM, workers will continue with the final details such as the placement of furniture, installation of AV equipment, enabling of security/card access, placing of new signage, testing of newly installed equipment, and final cleaning.
  • Following the successful testing of the Phase 2 new stair pressurization system as well as completion of the full life-safety review of all building areas in Phase 2 which occurred last week, the project team has filed for the certificate of occupancy for both the seven-story west and two-story north additions. This will be a significant milestone for the project.
  • Upon receipt of the certificate of occupancy, the project team will begin the next phase of inspections by the Department of Public Health; the successful completion of which will allow patient care to begin in the new patient treatment centers in the seven-story west addition. Concurrently, GSDM will begin moving into the new spaces and begin training faculty, staff, students, and residents on the new dental equipment. Patient care is anticipated to begin in approximately four weeks.

As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered at both the interior and exterior of the building. Your safety is imperative!
