Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 3/13/20
During the weekend of March 14:
- On Saturday, crews will be on-site to install the glass presentation boards in the first-floor auditorium in the new two-story north addition, as well as to complete the final finish details on the cabinets in the patient treatment centers on the fourth, fifth, and sixth floors of the new seven-story west addition.
- On Sunday, night-shift work will continue, starting at 10 p.m. and ending at 6 a.m. From Sunday through Thursday, workers will continue installing new telephone and data communications in the existing GSDM building. Activities include transferring the telecommunications service to connections throughout the new north and west additions.
During the week starting March 16:
- While GSDM continues to move into the new seven-story west and two-story north additions, workers will be completing final details in the new auditorium, including installing audio-visual equipment and lighting controls. Testing of all of the room controls and equipment will be completed, allowing the A/V training sessions to begin.
- The Project is awaiting its survey by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health. Completion and approvals will enable patient care to begin in the new addition and allow GSDM to close the existing fifth-floor treatment center for renovation during Phase 3.
- The Project team is finalizing the planning and logistics for the kickoff of Phase 3, following the Department of Public Health’s approval to begin patient care. This will mean closing the existing toilet rooms at the stair/elevator lobby on each floor in the existing building for renovation; the new toilet rooms on each floor of the seven-story west addition, constructed as part of Phase 2, will be open and accessible for use at the time the existing toilet rooms are taken offline. In addition, the two existing elevators in the existing building will be closed for a complete renovation. During this renovation, patients, students, residents, faculty, and staff will be using the two new elevators located in the new seven-story west addition, built as part of Phase 2.
- Excavation for the remaining planters near the 635 Albany Street entrance will begin on Tuesday and will continue through the week, concluding with the pouring of the concrete footings at the end of next week.
As a reminder to all, please be aware of all directional signage, as designated travel paths for patients, students, residents, faculty and staff will be altered as the project kicks off Phase 3. Your safety is imperative!
