Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 10/2/20

During the weekend of October 3, all work will occur on Saturday only:

  • Work in the Stair 2 lobbies will continue, with painting of the walls on the fifth, sixth, and seventh floors.
  • A small crew will be installing the finished floor in the laboratories and dispensary area in the existing fifth-floor patient treatment center.
  • A crew will be on site in the elevator construction area performing electrical work on the existing elevators.

During the week starting October 5:

  • There will be no night-shift work this week.
  • A crane will be set up periodically (as needed) on the north side of the GSDM building to support the complete removal of the building’s roof and insulation, in preparation for the installation of the new roof and insulation. This work will be continuous over the next four to six weeks, depending on the weather.
  • Renovation work will continue in the existing fifth-floor patient treatment center, with new flooring in the patient registration area. Installation of the remaining millwork will be completed in the patient treatment center areas, in preparation for the arrival of the new dental chairs the week of October 12. In the laboratory and dispensary areas, locker and AV devices will be installed. Testing and adjusting of the heating, cooling, and ventilation units will occur in all areas of the existing patient treatment center at the end of the week.
  • Fire alarm pre-testing will take place within the fifth-floor renovation area in preparation for the Phase 3 Temporary Certificate of Occupancy scheduled for early December.
  • Upgrades to the existing elevators will continue, with crews focusing on the hoist mechanical system within the elevator construction area.

Please consult these additional resources as needed:

  • GSDM COVID-19 information: http://www.bu.edu/dental/covid-19-information/. This webpage is a repository of all communications issued to the school community by the GSDM leadership. It also includes links to the Boston University and Boston University Medical Campus COVID-19 websites.

Please be sure to note all directional signage and markings within the GSDM building, and the designated stairs for upward or downward travel between floors. Each stairway is marked with signage that shows the permissible direction of travel. Circulation may be revised to accommodate both construction and proper physical distancing as the school continues to evolve plans and operations for the phased re-opening and increased number of people in the school. These actions align with the COVID-19 guidelines issued by state regulatory agencies and by Boston University.

We hope that you remain safe and healthy. As always, your safety is imperative!
