Center for Computing & Data Sciences – Construction Update – 1/8/21

During the weekend of January 9th

  • Crews will be on site Saturday to continue the installation of rebar and formwork at the tower’s core.

During the week of January 11th

  • The removal of the cross-lot bracing from the Support Of Excavation (SOE) system continues.
  • The final pieces of rebar and formwork will be installed for the stepped slab, at the transition from the podium to the tower, with the final portion (upper tier) scheduled for concrete placement on Monday.
  • Rebar and formwork installation will continue at the exterior foundation walls and at the core in the tower. Concrete placement for the next level of the tower’s core is scheduled for the first half of the week.

  • The installation of helical piles for the new bike shelter will begin adjacent to the west wall of Sargent College. These piles will be drilled approximately 30 feet deep utilizing small equipment. The noise and vibrations caused by this activity are expected to be minimal and will not impact Sargent College operations.
  • Starting on Monday, a crew will begin excavating a trench in the alley behind 595 Commonwealth Avenue and installing a telecommunications conduit from a manhole to the communications room located off the parking garage. This conduit will connect the new Center for Computing & Data Sciences to the BU network.
  • Please be aware of all directional signage, as pedestrian travel paths may be altered. We will continue to provide you with up to date information via these notifications.
