Goldman School of Dental Medicine – Construction Update – 1/15/21

During the weekend of January 16:
- A crew will take advantage of the weekend (when fewer trade workers are present on the site) to begin, starting Saturday, January 16, patching any missing fireproofing—possibly removed during demolition—on the existing steel structure in the new Phase 4 sixth-floor patient treatment center.
During the week starting January 18:
- From Monday, January 18, through Thursday, January 21, night-shift work will resume from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., with crews continuing to paint the newly installed stair handrails, the undersides of the stairs, and walls in the Stair 1 stairwell.
- Phase 4 renovation work in the new sixth-floor patient treatment center will also continue this week. At the beginning of the week, workers will continue installing the new electrical and plumbing systems throughout the clinical spaces. Metal-stud framing and fire-caulking of rated walls (walls built to contain a fire for a certain amount of time) will begin this week in areas where the new dental chairs will be located.
- Crews will continue to elevate the sixth-floor existing main plumbing pipes to the ceiling heights required by the Department of Public Health. This work includes relocating plumbing pipes that serve the seventh-floor dental chairs. It will not affect operation of the seventh-floor Dental Health Center and patient treatment centers.
- Installation of decorative glass mosaic wall tile will continue this week at the elevator lobbies on the first through seventh floors; this work will continue into next week and will be followed by the painting of the elevator door frames.
- Upgrades to the existing second elevator will continue in the existing GSDM building, with crews working in the shaft and penthouse elevator machine room.

- GSDM COVID-19 information: http://www.bu.edu/dental/covid-19-information/. This web page is a repository of all communications issued to the school community by the GSDM leadership. It also includes links to the Boston University and Boston University Medical Campus COVID-19 websites.
Please be sure to note all directional signage and markings within the GSDM building and the designated stairs for travel between floors. Circulation may be revised to accommodate both construction and proper physical distancing as the school continues evolving plans and operations for the phased re-opening and increased number of people in the school. These actions align with the COVID-19 guidelines issued by state regulatory agencies and by Boston University.
We hope that you remain safe and healthy as we continue the final phase of the GSDM addition and renovation project.
