Kilachand Hall Phase 2 – Construction Update – 03/24/23
General Project Information
- Daily Work Hours from 7 am – 3 pm.
- The Traffic Management Plan for the project has been approved by the Boston Transportation Department and is in place.
- Relocated accessible parking spaces posted for use on 6/29 (in front of 81 and 83 Bay State Road).
- Jersey barrier site containment in place, pedestrian walkway also in place and operational. The city sidewalk in front of Kilachand Hall is permitted to be used as part of the construction site limits.
- Bike lane is fully functional in front of Kilachand Hall.
- BU parking spots directly behind Kilachand Hall on Back Street remain a “no parking zone”. This will continue for the project duration to maintain an adequate drive lane for local traffic on Back Street and allow the construction team to safely contain a work area north of the dormitory.
Saturday, March 25th
- Consigli – On site for supervision.
- Riggs laborers – Supporting cleanup and weather protection.
- Riggs masons – Organizing material and active vehicle barrier install.
- Murphy – Rough piping on level 9 and wire mold finishes in the southwest renovation areas.
- Mass Acoustics – Framing perimeter knee walls on level 9 and installing roof blocking.
- Titan – Sheetmetal install and roof demolition.
- Safway – One person on site operating the hoist.
- Badd Bros – Prep for screen walls, mechanical room deck, or rafters on level 9. New stair installation will continue.

During the week of March 27th
- The exterior masonry façade will be receiving a final washdown and exterior window cleaning on all levels on the south elevation (facing Bay State Road).
- There will be more noise than usual due to SOS demolition working on demolishing the concrete block wall on level 1. This work will only take a few days and will not start until after 9 am.
- Riggs masonry crew will be finishing with brick rebuild of the level 9 façade on the south elevation bump outs. The south elevation masonry façade punch list may also get underway.
- Badd Bros continuing with the new steel stair installation. They will also be working on structural reinforcement details on level 8, as well as miscellaneous tie-in work on level 9.
- Royal Steam Plumbing and Murphy Electric will continue with rough-in work on levels 7, 8, and 9.
- Mass Acoustics continues with raised floor framing on level 9, spray foam insulation of exterior wall locations, exterior wall tie-ins, and sheetrock taping and sanding in the renovated suite areas on levels 6 and 7. The level 9 exterior knee wall framing will also get underway.
- Empire masonry working on elevator front infills.
- ThyssenKrupp Elevator mechanics are continuing with building out new elevator cars.
- Consigli/Riggs team on site providing cleaning, site support, and supervision.
