The wide array of buildings at Boston University is constantly being maintained, repaired, preserved, and improved by Campus Planning & Operations.
Building Maintenance
The Charles River Campus is divided into 15 areas, each of which is assigned an area manager to ensure close oversight of operations and maintenance. Area managers are key points of contact for faculty and staff seeking routine services and event support. We inspect buildings annually to identify necessary improvements and respond daily to routine and emergency requests for repairs.

Residence Halls
Campus Planning & Operations works closely with BU Housing, Residence Life, and Dining Services to provide residents with a safe, clean, comfortable, and functional living space on campus.
Cleaning and Maintenance
For cleaning and maintenance help, please contact your residence assistant. If you cannot reach them, contact your residence hall director.
CPO custodians are responsible for cleaning public areas outside of student rooms, suites, or apartments on weekdays. They are not responsible for cleaning student rooms and apartments, or bathrooms and common areas located within student those spaces. Residents are responsible for removing trash and recycling from within their rooms to a designated central location.
Our expert trade and maintenance workers respond to routine and emergency requests for repairs, and perform upgrades identified during annual inspections.
Classrooms
Campus Planning & Operations diligently maintains classrooms and classroom buildings to provide the best possible learning environment for students. Our Planning, Design & Construction team works closely with the Office of the Provost, Office of the Registrar , and Information Services & Technology to best meet instructional needs.
Cleaning and Maintenance
CPO custodians are responsible for the daily cleaning of classrooms on campus. Throughout the year, they strip and wax every classroom and hallway, shampoo the carpets, wash the walls, and change light bulbs. Our expert trades and maintenance workers respond to routine and emergency requests for repairs and perform upgrades and improvements identified during annual inspections. Offices
Campus Planning & Operations maintains all administrative offices on the BU Campuses to ensure a clean, safe, and productive working environment. We manage recycling and document shredding services as well as trash removal and perform routine and emergency repairs. We support you with set-up for small events, small furniture moves, installation of whiteboards, and more. We’re also your first stop if you’re thinking of renovations or major changes to furniture and office design.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Your Area Manager is your first point of contact for all cleaning and maintenance services, as well as any renovations or improvements. CPO custodians clean offices and common areas including bathrooms, kitchens, and hallways.

Building Permits and Documentation
Campus Planning & Operations maintains building permits, certificates, and inspection documentation for Boston University properties. The documents are maintained in accordance with local, state, and federal requirements. Examples of the documents on file include assembly permits, dormitory inspections, elevator certificates, fire alarm inspections, and sprinkler inspections. If you have any questions, please contact
