Registration for FYSOP 2024 is now open! Click here to register for the program.

Overview: FYSOP aims to inspire students to become active citizens of their community. Through three days of community-building, service, reflection, and fun, participants will start their time at BU with a greater understanding of Boston, a better sense of self, and a stronger sense of community. Throughout the program, we hope to provide opportunities for students to grow while learning essential skills that will help them successfully navigate their transition into college.

Program Objectives:

  • Forge friendships with fellow participants through thoughtful and engaging conversations.
  • Understand the concept of intersectionality and how it plays a role in our community, either in the Greater Boston area or at BU.
  • Leave the week feeling empowered and willing to generate positive change within their community post-FYSOP.
  • Encourage students to be intentional with the language used to discuss their experiences with service, community partners, and various social justice topics.
  • Become active citizens in the world by addressing community needs in a socially responsible way.

Dates:

This year, FYSOP will take place from Wednesday, August 28 through Friday, August 30. All new first-year and transfer undergraduate students enrolled for the Fall 2024 semester are welcome to participate. We strongly recommend that students participating in FYSOP register for Orientation Session 5 scheduled for August 26-27, 2024, if possible. Students who participate in Orientation Sessions 1-4 can also participate in FYSOP.

Cost:

The cost of FYSOP registration is $450. The registration fee covers food, transportation, swag, and other program supplies during the entire program. Need-based scholarships of up to $450 are available, which students can apply for when they register for the program. More information about the scholarship application process can be found here.
