We are a research group at Boston University studying the Aurorae on Jupiter and Saturn. The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) allows us to take beautiful images of the Aurorae...

Auroras are light emissions phenomena due to energetic particles precipitating into the upper atmospheres.

The project will consist of a concentrated series of HST observations coordinated with planetary spacecraft and other earth-based observations in 2007. The temporal resolution of the measurements combined with the correlation of in situ observations will give us more insight about the phenomena at stake.

The HST observations will take place simultaneously with other in situ observations by Cassini and New Horizon. We expect to also compare with observations from ground-based telescopes at IR and radio wavelength.  These combined observations will provide more information abour the correlation between light emissions and solar wind parameters.
