We are a research group at Boston University studying the Aurorae on Jupiter and Saturn. The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) allows us to take beautiful images of the Aurorae... |
---|
Auroras are light emissions phenomena due to energetic particles precipitating into the upper atmospheres. |
---|
The project will consist of a concentrated series of HST observations coordinated with planetary spacecraft and other earth-based observations in 2007. The temporal resolution of the measurements combined with the correlation of in situ observations will give us more insight about the phenomena at stake. |
---|
The HST observations will take place simultaneously with other in situ observations by Cassini and New Horizon. We expect to also compare with observations from ground-based telescopes at IR and radio wavelength. These combined observations will provide more information abour the correlation between light emissions and solar wind parameters. |
