BU/BMC MAC
Boston University/Boston Medical Campus Memory & Aging Clinic
Overview
The BU/BMC MAC is located on the Boston Medical Center Campus and specializes in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of various thinking and memory disorders. The MAC is affiliated with The Boston University Alzheimer’s Disease Research and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy Centers as well as Boston Medical Center. The clinic is run by doctors Jesse Mez and Michael Alosco, both of whom hold faculty positions in the BU ADRC and BU CTE Center.
Services
The BU/BMC MAC is a multidisciplinary clinic that conducts comprehensive neurological and neuropsychological diagnostic evaluations to supply prompt and accurate diagnosis. The MAC focuses on patient care and research through clinical studies. By working with the ADRC and CTE Centers, the MAC is uniquely suited to provide families with a variety of clinical research opportunities. Continued care and monitoring are provided on a case-by-case basis and are based on the needs of each individual patient.
Patient Care
To be seen at the BU/BMC MAC, you must be 50 years of age or older, as the providers specialize in thinking and memory disorders, and disorders of aging. Each patient must have a close family member, friend, or caregiver to accompany them to these appointments and participate in the interview. Before the appointment, there will be an initial interview via a phone call to discuss care needs and research interests.
Research
Each patient has the opportunity to participate in the BU ADRC or CTE Center’s Clinical Studies through the MAC. The ADRC and CTE Centers recruit for several clinical research studies, but each one has specific guidelines for participation. Your doctor at the MAC will aid in finding the right study for you. Participating in clinical research helps our scientists get one step closer to solving the many questions these studies pose.
