Bio

Douglas I. Katz, MD is professor of neurology at Boston University School of Medicine, and his neurology practice is at Boston Medical Center and Encompass Health Braintree Rehabilitation Hospital, where he has served as medical director of the Brain Injury Program for over 35 years. He graduated from Stony Brook University School of Medicine, completed neurology residency at Boston University, and a Behavioral Neurology fellowship at Boston University and the Boston VAMC. He is board certified in Adult Neurology, Brain Injury Medicine, and Neural Repair and Rehabilitation (UCNS).

His research interests include traumatic brain injury, neurorehabilitation, disorders of consciousness and chronic traumatic encephalopathy, and he has published extensively in these areas. He has co-edited several books, including three editions of a comprehensive text on Brain Injury Medicine.

As an educator, he has mentored many trainees in neurorehabilitation and brain injury medicine and has been a national leader in developing training and certification standards. He serves on a number of advisory boards, study sections, and on editorial boards for major journals on brain injury and neurorehabilitation.

From 2015 to 2017, Dr. Katz served as president of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (ACRM). His honors include the Sheldon Berrol Clinical Services Award from the Brain Injury Association of America (2001), the Ken Viste, Jr. award from the American Society of Neurorehabilitaiton (2012) and the Compassionate Care Award of the Brain Injury Association of MA (2013). He is a fellow of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine (FACRM), American Academy of Neurology (FAAN), American Society of Neurorehabilitation (FASNR), and the American Neurological Association (FANA).
