CTL begins new partnership with MetroBridge
The Center for Teaching & Learning is excited to announce a new partnership with The Initiative on Cities’ MetroBridge experiential learning program. The partnership will be supported by a $25,000 grant over two years from the Davis Educational Foundation. Thanks to the Davis Educational Foundation and to David Glick, Faculty Director of MetroBridge, and Paige Dolci, former Program Manager, for making this new collaboration possible. Deb Breen, CTL’s Director, and Assistant Director Ben Keating will support the new program.
MetroBridge is a University-wide applied research and experiential learning program that matches BU courses to local governments and community organizations. It provides students with the unique opportunity to work on real-world projects, and partners with valuable research to address pressing urban challenges.
Supported by the grant, MetroBridge and CTL will partner with faculty fellows – Bridge Builders – to develop and deliver new faculty resources for experiential learning. The Bridge Builders Faculty Fellows Program will create a learning community with members who will regularly engage with and learn from each other. The Bridge Builders will draw on their own classroom experiences to offer insight into the barriers to and impacts of project-based teaching and to help inform new curricular toolkits and trainings for their faculty peers. Bridge Builder Fellows will receive $1,000 research stipends for each year they participate.
These resources and trainings will include:
- A curriculum toolkit on local government to inform effective University-community partnerships by providing faculty with sample syllabi, relevant class assignments and readings, and a module on how to write briefings for local governments.
- Two in-person trainings to encourage faculty to experiment with innovative teaching methods, with guidance on securing partnerships with communities, engagement and implementation, presenting deliverables, and evaluating results.
This exciting new program will launch in Fall 2022. To learn more, please direct initial inquiries to MetroBridge Faculty Director David Glick at dmglick@bu.edu.
To express your interest in joining this Faculty Fellows program, please submit the application form by Friday, September 9, 2022.
