Experiential Learning for Graduate Students

There are many experiential offerings of all shapes and sizes at Boston University, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  If a professor wants to create a new program for their school; or wants to integrate experiential learning into an existing course, below is a short description of experiential  programs with contact information.  Hopefully, this directory will spark creativity for integrating experiential learning in University courses, make it easier to find colleagues in a position to offer advice and support, and foster cross-university cooperation.

School of Hospitality

School of Hospitality undergraduate and graduate students are required to have real-world experiences in the hospitality industry during their programs.  Students typically complete this requirement during the summer.

Length: 300 hours

Credits: None

Who do the students work with? SHA’s various hospitality partners, including hotels and restaurants.

School of Law

Boston University School of Law offers several experiential learning opportunities through internships, clinics, and practicums. In recent years, the American Bar Association has recognized the importance of experiential education in legal education and now requires that every law student complete at least 6 experiential credits before graduation.  Students take these courses during their second and third years of law school and generally dedicate 15 hours a week to their fieldwork.  Students are supervised by clinical faculty, and serve as primary legal representative and advocate for clients, engage in complex litigation or transactional law cases, or drive legal reform.
