Generative AI is a form of artificial intelligence that allows the creation of new content based on a user’s input (or prompt). New content can be created through text, images, audio, or video tools. When OpenAI released its ChatGPT large language model (LLM) in November 2022, the tool quickly amassed millions of users, while other generative AI tools continue to be developed at a rapid rate. With the AI industry estimated to reach 1.3 trillion in less than 10 years (Bloomberg, 2023), both teachers and students need to be AI-literate and to understand how to navigate the AI landscape.

Generative AI is constantly evolving; in higher education, we are just starting to explore and research AI as a teaching and learning tool. This page will be regularly updated as our knowledge and practice expands and as we learn more about the use of generative AI in instruction, curriculum development, and assessment.

Please work with us to expand our community’s knowledge by uploading examples of assignment prompts, sample syllabus statements, and other teaching and learning uses of AI through this form.
