Commentary highlights reasons for lack of diversity in cancer research
A commentary by researchers from Mayo Clinic and the University of Southern California suggests that agencies funding biomedical research must strive for diversity, equity and inclusion in research decisions, and that these agencies will only be successful if they address bias in the research funding process.
VCU Wright Center researchers develop COVID-19 testing method that is both accurate and fast
A team of Virginia Commonwealth University researchers has published a paper providing a framework for increasing the speed of the COVID-19 PCR test, which is accurate but time-consuming, by removing a timely and expensive step. Another paper by the same research team proposes an easier method for identifying variants like Delta.
NCATS Bioethics Supplement: Institutional Approaches to COVID-19 Trial Prioritization
The University of Pennsylvania will be conducting a mixed methods study, funded by NCATS through a bioethics supplement to the University of Pennsylvania’s CTSA, to examine institutional approaches to prioritizing COVID-19 trials. The study team will invite prioritization committee chairs/co-chairs and other relevant decision-makers to participate from a random selection of CTSA Program hubs

Meet the Third Cohorts for Change Facilitator, John Cullen
John P. Cullen, Ph.D., director of diversity and inclusion for the University of Rochester CTSI, will facilitate the third workshop of the CLIC Cohorts for Change anti-racism series, “Undoing the Historical Legacy of Racism in Research.” Cohorts for Change is a six-month training program focused on giving participants the knowledge and skills to further develop structural and administrative anti-racism initiatives within their CTSA Program hub.

COP26 finally framed climate change as a public health issue
As the dust settles on the COP26 climate change conference in Glasgow, Scotland, health professionals are finally feeling acknowledged by the global climate community.
More than 100 doctors and nurses traveled to Glasgow earlier this month with a message for world leaders: Global warming is a leading threat to public health. And curbing planet-warming emissions is a prescription.

An overview of the process and application of storytelling as a tool to increase awareness about research participation among underrepresented populations. This process includes adaptations of communications models as well as the health belief model.
