Dr. Siddharth Vora Takes Home Dean’s Award at BU Research Symposium

Fourteen BUSDM pre- and postdoctoral students joined their BU peers in Metcalf Hall April 2 for BU’s Science and Engineering Research Symposium, where Dr. Siddharth Vora ORAL BIO 08 received the SDM Dean’s Award.

Vora’s research, "A role for the lysyl oxidase propeptide in the regulation of osteoblast proliferation and differentiation," focuses on a molecule that may be an important regulator in bone formation.

"[The symposium] is an excellent way to form ties with individuals at BU who have similar interests," says Vora. "I received quite a few good comments and suggestions that I may be able to incorporate into my work down the line. This kind of an outside perspective is always advantageous."

Dr. Philip Trackman, professor in the Department of Periodontology and Oral Biology, was a mentor to Vora. Vora thanks Trackman for being a "hands-on" advisor and thanks his colleagues for creating a fun work environment.

Formerly known as Science and Engineering Day, the symposium is open to BU graduate students engaged in science-, mathematics-, engineering-, or technology-related research.
