BUGSDM Students Present Research at the Hinman Student Research Symposium

Renato de Luna DMD 09 traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, last month to present his research as part of a poster presentation at the Hinman Student Research Symposium.
Renato’s presentation, “The Role of N-Glycosylation in Submandibular Gland (SMG) Branching Morphogensis,” was based on research he did during his APEX rotation in Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology Dr. Maria Kukuruzinska’s lab. He hopes his findings can be applied to systems with SMG development including those found in the teeth, kidney, and lungs.
He enjoyed working with Dr. Kukuruzinska and was encouraged by her to attend the Symposium.
“Attending the Hinman Symposium was a great experience,” said Renato. “I was able to meet other student researchers from across the country and learn about topics from attending their presentations, which I had not previously considered.”
Also in attendance at the Symposium was BUGSDM student, Dion Tik Shun Li DMD 09 who did research with Associate Dean for Administration Dr. Paula Friedman. The title of his research was, “Dental Management of Patients with Diabetes.”
