Student Earns Research Opportunity in Molecular and Cell Biology Lab

Bakr Amin CAS 10 (pre-dental) received a 2008 Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) Award. This award, which includes a stipend, research supplies allowance, travel subsidy, and housing, supports summer research training for a ten week period.

Amin will be spending his ten weeks in the laboratory of Dr. Maria Kukuruzinska under the direction of Dr. Mihai Nita-Lazar. Amin’s research will examine the effects of E-cadherin N-glycans on cell migration. This project represents a continuation of Amin’s research which he conducted in Dr. Kukuruzinska’s laboratory in the summer of 2007.

"I applied for the UROP award because I have always been interested in research," said Amin. "I wanted to return to Dr. Kukuruzinska’s lab for a second year because I found the research she is doing very interesting."
