BUGSDM Connects With Alumni in the Gulf Region

Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM) alumni gathered in Dubai for a luncheon with Dean Jeffrey Hutter and Mrs. Kathy Hutter on Friday, January 16 at the Magnolia Restaurant in Madinat Jumairah, Dubai.
"I am so pleased to be able to be here today to, for the first time, host our Goldman School of Dental Medicine Alumni in the gulf region," said Dean Hutter. "I have been traveling around the United States since my appointment as Dean in an attempt to connect with as many alumni as possible and it is indeed a unique pleasure and privilege to join you here in Dubai."
Several distinguished guests joined Dean and Mrs. Hutter at the luncheon including Boston University President Robert Brown, Vice President for Development & Alumni Relations Scott Nichols and his wife Muriel, and Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations Steve Hall who were in Dubai as part of the BU Celebrate Excellence! program held January 16 and 17.
"We are very proud of our role in the creation of the BU Institute of Dental Research and Education here in Dubai as part of the Dubai Health Care City, and it’s indeed inspiring to see so many of our alumni here with us today," said President Brown. "A major part of our strategic plan is to increase the global activities of BU, and we are committed to increasing alumni events in the Gulf Region and to exploring the possibility of additional academic and research programs in the area."
Also during the trip, Dean and Mrs. Hutter hosted a reception for the Boston University Institute of Dental Research and Education (BUIDRE) Dubai faculty, residents, staff, and spouses at the Grand Hyatt Dubai Hotel on Wednesday, January 14. Dean Hutter thanked Dr. Steve Morgano for taking on the role of Chief Academic Officer of BUIDRE Dubai, congratulated BUIDRE Dubai Assistant Professor and Program Director of Endodontics Dr. Ralph Hawkins on a job well done over the past year as he prepares to depart Dubai, and welcomed Dr. Harold Goodis who recently joined the faculty at BUIDRE Dubai as Professor of Endodontics and who will be overseeing the department until a new Program Director is found.
Dean Hutter concluded his remarks by addressing the residents’ success adding, "Last July, when we opened the doors to the Boston University Institute of Dental Research and Education Dubai in Dubai Health Care City, we welcomed our 15 residents in five postdoctoral specialties and I could not be more proud of each of you," said Dean Hutter. "The faculty keeps me updated on your progress and report that you consistently exceed expectations."
