Dr. Helmerhorst Presents Research at Gordon Research Conference

Boston University Goldman School of Dental Medicine (BUGSDM) Associate Professor Dr. Eva Helmerhorst was selected to speak at the Gordon Research Conference on Salivary Glands & Exocrine Secretion held February 8-13 in Galveston, Texas.

This was the seventh Gordon Conference in a series that has brought together established salivary and exocrine gland investigators, promising junior scientists, and experts from associated fields.

Dr. Helmerhorst’s lecture was titled, "Proteolysis in Oral Fluid: A New Paradigm of Salivary Protein Structure and Function," and focused on her ongoing research of glandular salivary proteins.

"I was happy to be invited to lecture at this Conference, especially on something as unique as whole saliva," said Dr. Helmerhorst. "Fluid is generally an underrepresented topic and my lecture discussed fluid that is in direct contact with oral structures as opposed to just fluid that is secreted by glands."

Dr. Helmerhorst continued, "It was also very interesting to see people from different glandular research fields come together, especially those focused on lacrimal glands and pancreatic glands."

"Dr. Helmerhorst’s invitation to lecture at the prestigious Gordon Research Conference is quite an honor," said Dean Jeffrey Hutter. "We are very proud of her cutting edge research and her desire to share the results of this research with others in her field."
