GSDM Honors Dr. Anthony Gianelly

A memorial service for former Chair ad interim of the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics Dr. Anthony A. Gianelly was held at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) on June 26. Dr. Gianelly passed away May 28 at the age of 72.
The memorial began with a invocation from Dean of Marsh Chapel The Reverend Dr. Robert Allan Hill and included remarks from Dean Jeffrey Hutter; Dean’s Advisory Board member John Kacewicz DMD 75, ORTHO 77; Clinical Assistant Professor Jack Bednar ORTHO 75; Professor Emeritus of Dentistry at the University of Michigan and Professor Emeritus of Orthodontics at Saint Louis University Dr. Lysle E. Johnson, Jr.; and Associate Professor and Director of the Advanced Orthodontic Training Program Victor Dietz ORTHO 71. All of the speakers shared anecdotes about funny, poignant, and inspirational moments they had shared with Dr. Gianelly, or "Dr. G," as he was more often referred to, and how much they will miss him. The respect and admiration for Dr. Gianelly as a teacher, colleague, and friend was clear from the remarks and the response of the audience.
“For the Gianelly family, Ernie, Todd, Lisa, Jeff, Will, and Matthew, please know that you will always have a very special place in our hearts and that the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine thanks you for allowing your husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather to share his life with and dedicate his career to orthodontics and our School,” said Dean Hutter.
Following the service a reception was held in Hiebert Lounge which brought alumni, residents, faculty, and staff from the Department of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and elsewhere throughout GSDM together for lunch and further reminiscing about the time they spent learning from and working with Dr. Gianelly.
Photos from the reception are available on GSDM’s flickr account and also on the GSDM Facebook page. You must have full web access to view the flickr account, but do not need a personal Facebook account to view photos on the Facebook page.
