Employee Recognition Reception Recognizes Exceptional Faculty and Staff

On September 28, Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter and Mrs. Kathy Hutter hosted a reception honoring Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine retirees and those that have served the School for 25 years.
"As we acknowledge and recount all that these individuals do to contribute to the success of our students, patients, and our School I am reminded how critical the contributions of each and every member of our team are to the fulfillment of our mission," said Dean Hutter. "I truly appreciate and value each and every member of our Henry M. Goldman School Dental Medicine family and I am proud to honor the extraordinary contributions of these individuals tonight."
Dean Hutter recognized Dr. Celeste Kong and Ms. Maria Isabel Canas for their dedication to the School for the last 25 years. Dr. Kong joined GSDM in 1984 as a Clinical Instructor of Prosthodontics and currently serves as Professor & Director of Predoctoral Restorative Dentistry. Ms. Canas began her career at Boston University in 1985 and came to the Dental School in 1990. She has been Head Cashier for the Office of Finance for the past 20 years.
Dean Hutter then presented touching remarks about each of the recent retirees in attendance including former Assistant to the Manager of the Supply Store Mr. John Manning, who retired in August 2009; Admissions Associate Dr. Sydell Shaw, who retired in May 2010; Patient Accounts Coordinator for the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Ms. Louise Kimball, who retired in June 2010; and Patient Records Coordinator Ms. Joyce Snowden, who retired in July 2010. The assembled group applauded loudly for each of these individuals, who in their own way helped shape GSDM into the School it is today.
Recent retirees who were unable to attend were also recognized including former Sterilization Assistant Ms. Cristina Damiani, who retired in July 2009; Professor of General Dentistry Dr. Jean Emerling, who retired in July 2010; Research Technician in Health Policy & Health Services Research Ms. Linda Fariole, who also retired in July 2010; Clinical Associate Professor of General Dentistry Dr. Nargess Ashayeri, who retired in September 2010; and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Administrative Coordinator Ms. Helen Doyle, who retired this month. All of the honorees received a Boston University pen and pencil set engraved with their initials.
"To each of the honorees, please accept my sincere appreciation for your service and contributions," said Dean Hutter. "It is truly people like you who make our School a center for excellence in oral health education, research, and care in the world."
