MDS Recognizes Courtney Brady DMD 11 with Prestigious Award

Courtney Brady DMD 11 was selected as the 2011 recipient of the Matthew Boylan Scholarship. This scholarship was established by the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS) and Bank of America in memory of former MDS Executive Director, Matthew Boylan.
The scholarship is awarded annually during Yankee Dental Congress (YDC) to a Massachusetts resident and dental student who has provided distinguished service to organized dentistry and the community.
“I was honored to receive this award,” said Brady. “Especially when I learned that it was Dean Hutter who had nominated me. It means a lot to know that my efforts among the dental community are noticed by such an influential person.”
Brady is an active member of ASDA and has served as the ASDA Community Outreach Chair, Relay for Life Team Captain and Oral Cancer Awareness Booth Coordinator, and participated in National Dental Student Lobby Day. She has also volunteered her time and expertise to Program White Coat, the Health Career Workshop for Health Occupations Students of America, the Roxbury Boys and Girls Club, and MDS—as both a radiology course instructor and Presiding Chair at YDC.
Brady is also passionate about research, serving as the President of the BU Dental Student Research Group, and authoring a research project titled, “Evaluating Program White Coat, a Dental Pipeline Program for Children.” She was selected to present a poster on this research at the 2009 IADR/AADR Meeting and as part of the 2009 ADA/DENTSPLY Student Clinician Research Program.
Her dedication and tireless efforts have not gone unnoticed. In addition to the Matt Boylan Scholarship she has also been the recipient of the Foundation of the Pierre Fauchard Academy Dental Student Scholarship Award and the Boston University Women Graduates’ Club Scholarship.
"I believe that Courtney is truly deserving of this award because of her outstanding contributions to the GSDM community, both in and out of the classroom," said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. "She serves as a role model and inspiration to her classmates and our faculty and staff often comment what a pleasure she is to work with. She will be an invaluable addition to the profession upon her graduation from the DMD program this May."
