Farewell to Dr. David Cottrell

On November 15, friends and colleagues gathered at the BU Castle to bid farewell to Director of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Residency Training Program/Advanced Specialty Education Program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at BMC and GSDM Dr. David Cottrell. Dr. Cottrell is leaving GSDM to pursue other career opportunities effective December 31.

Dr. Cottrell joined the GSDM faculty in 1993, as Assistant Professor and Director of Resident Research. From 1997 to 2007, he served as Director, Advanced Specialty Education Program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and from 2007to 2010, as Chair of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Associate Dean for Hospital Affairs. In April 2010, he stepped down as Chair, and took on his current role.

Said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter, “Dr. Cottrell’s hard work and dedication has had a significant and positive influence on the quality of our Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and the strong relationship we maintain with Boston Medical Center.”

The sentiment was the same among all of the assembled guests at the farewell party: Dr. Cottrell will be missed.

And Dr. Cottrell will miss them as well. He said, “I would like to thank the entire BU ‘family’ for many wonderful years of support. It has truly been a pleasure to spend nineteen years working in such an exciting and stimulating environment. I leave behind many colleagues that will remain life-long friends. If I had to do it again, I wouldn’t change a thing.”
