GSDM Community Takes on AADR Annual Meeting
The American Association for Dental Research (AADR) 2012 Annual Meeting was held in Tampa, Florida this year and many members of the GSDM community attended. Many faculty and students also presented at the meeting. Faculty presenters included Drs. Dan Nathanson, Frank Oppenheim, Eva Helmerhorst, George Huang, Raul Garcia, Elizabeth Krall Kaye, and Guo-xian Wei.
Dr. Oppenheim presented his lecture, “Saliva and Innate Immunity,” as part of a Symposium honoring Dr. Irwin D. Mandel. The special Symposium was named, “In Defense of the Oral Cavity through the Eyes of the General of the Salivation Army: A Tribute to the Memory of Irwin D. Mandel: Scholar, Mentor and Humanitarian.” Dr. Helmerhorst also presented a special lecture, a Keynote Address titled “The Role of Saliva in Digestion and Gastrointestinal Health.”
Students from GSDM presented their research in both poster and oral formats. Presenters included: Abdullah AlAyad PGOE 15, Mey Al Habib ENDO 14, Na Tian PERIO 14, Terawat Tosiriwatanapong PROS 15, Wyatt Traina DMD 14, Nedda Hifeda PGOE 15, Ozair Banday DMD 13, Dan Faibish ORAL BIO 12, Ray English DMD 14, Josh Gilbert DMD 14, Manuel Posada PROS 12, Hesham Nouh ORAL BIO 12, and Post-doctoral Associate Yoshio Ohyama.
Also during the AADR Meeting Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter and Associate Dean for Research Maria Kukuruzinska hosted a reception at the Marriott Tampa Waterside Hotel & Marina on March 22. Close to100 people attended the reception.
