GSDM Hosts Annual Holiday Party
Students, residents, faculty, and staff of Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) filled Hiebert Lounge on Thursday, December 11, 2014, for the annual Holiday Party, hosted by Dean and Mrs. Jeffrey W. Hutter. The festivities were complete with dinner, dessert bar, live music, a photo booth, and a gingerbread house contest.
Hiebert Lounge was bustling with activity, music, and merrymaking. The lounge was trimmed with festive decorations and The Scarlet Jazz Ensemble from the BU College of Fine Arts provided lively music. Guests spent the evening mingling while enjoying a dinner catered by Chequers Café. For the first time, the Holiday Party featured a photo booth complete with reindeer antlers, Santa hats, mustaches, quirky signs, and other fun props, which were a big hit with attendees.
Ingeniously decorated gingerbread houses were also on display—all of which had been decorated by teams of students, staff, and faculty earlier in the day. Guests were given tickets and instructions to vote for their favorite gingerbread house. In a landslide, the team from the Department of Orthodontics took first prize with their house modeled after the house in the 2009 animated movie Up. Members of the winning team included: Berokh Bavar ORTHO 16, Carmen Doumit ORTHO 16, Ana Serrenho ORTHO 16, Sara Lalani ORTHO 15, Elise Vincelette ORTHO 15, Sarah AlMugairin ORTHO 19, Meghan Graham ORTHO 17, Mary Evan Thacker ORTHO 17, Nada Tashkandi ORTHO 19 and Martha Neeley ORTHO 16.
The last big event of the night was the raffle prize drawing. For most of the prizes, there were two winners—a student and a faculty/staff member. Prizes this year included: two $50 Barnes and Noble gift cards, two $50 Spa Finder gift cards, two $100 Amazon.com gift cards, two Fitbits, two Jambox Wireless Bluetooth Speakers, and two Oral-B Electric Toothbrushes, which were donated by Student Affairs.
There were also three grand-prizes, which were awarded after the student raffle tickets were combined with the faculty/staff tickets. These prizes included: two tickets in the Pepsi Student Suite for a February BU Hockey Game (donated by Student Affairs), two Bean Pot tickets (donated by Assistant Dean of Students Dr. Joseph Calabrese), and an iPad Mini.
“Kathleen and I always love hosting this annual event. It’s so wonderful to spend the holiday season with our GSDM family,” said Dean Hutter. “Congratulations to all of the raffle prize winners, and especially to the Orthodontics Residents for their prize-winning gingerbread house.”
