More than 140 members of the Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) community came together in the Hiebert Lounge on June 30 for a special Ramadan Iftar Dinner celebration, which was sponsored by GSDM’s Muslim Student Association (MSA).

All members of the GSDM community were encouraged to attend the Ramadan Iftar Dinner, which is the dinner during the month of Ramadan in which Muslims break their daily fast after sunset.

More than 140 Muslim and non-Muslim members of the GSDM community gathered around round tables in the Hiebert Lounge at 7 p.m. to dine on the food provided by the Black Seed Café and to learn more about Ramadan and what it means to Muslims around the world.

MSA President Amr Aly DMD 17 said the Ramadan Iftar Dinner was a successful event that helped to strengthen the GSDM community.

“We felt that bringing the community together during Ramadan was essential to uniting the entire Boston University Medical Campus, from faculty, students, staff, and the entire Boston Medical Campus team,” said Mr. Aly. “We feel that this event demonstrated our unity as a community, with attendees ranging from undergraduate students, professors, and healthcare providers  alike.”

The Muslim Student Association also hosted its annual Eid Dinner, celebrating the conclusion of Ramadan, on Tuesday, August 11 in the Hiebert Lounge.

“I am proud of the MSA for organizing such a wonderful event for members of the GSDM community,” said Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter. “It is events like these that form the communal bonds that make GSDM such a healthy and productive environment.”
