GSDM Orthodontic Residents Celebrated at Graduation Dinner

On Thursday, May 12, 2016, residents of the Advanced Specialty Education Program in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics Class of 2016 at Boston University Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine (GSDM) celebrated their graduation in the penthouse of Boston University’s Student Village 2. They were joined by family, friends, faculty, staff, and alumni of the program.
The celebration began with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres followed by a buffet dinner while enjoying some music by the Scarlet Jazz Ensemble. Attendees mingled with each other while watching the sunset over Boston and beyond from the spectacular views offered by the venue.
Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter and Mrs. Kathy Hutter attended the celebration as well, appreciating the opportunity to congratulate the graduating residents.
After dinner, Dr. Berokh Bavar played a video for the attendees showcasing the graduating residents and the various things that they took part in during their three years in the program.
Dr. Leslie Will, Anthony A. Gianelly Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics, delivered a few remarks by congratulating the graduates and provided them with a list of seven characteristics of successful people. One of these characteristics was a positive mental attitude. “When things aren’t fun and easy, a positive attitude and a good sense of humor can get you by,” said Dr. Will.
She then presented each graduate with a book that was signed by all of the faculty and offered a few words about each of the eight graduates.
Dr. Michael Moynihan ORTHO 00 and Interim President of the GSDM Orthodontic Alumni Association, also said a few words to the graduates. In his remarks, Dr. Moynihan congratulated the graduates on what they have achieved and wished them the best of luck in whatever their next steps may be as he offered them a certificate of membership into the GSDM Orthodontic Alumni Association.
“This was a great venue and a wonderful meal, but the very best part was the fact that we were celebrating eight accomplished orthodontists and lovely people. We will miss them and hope they will come back to BU to share their accomplishments with us,” said Dr. Will.
