Highlights of GSDM Orientation Week 2016
DAY 1
Welcome to DMD 20 and AS DMD 18 Students with a Sweet Introduction to Campus
On Monday, July 25, incoming students were introduced to campus life at The Welcome Lunch. Dean Jeffrey W. Hutter welcomed the students and shared his thoughts with DMD 20 and AS DMD 18 students.
“You are here today because you have chosen dentistry as your career and you are enrolled at Boston University because you have worked very hard in achieving the credentials necessary for acceptance into what is considered one of the finest dental schools in the world.
The commencement of your dental education at BU also has a special meaning as it occurs as our School enters its 54th year having been founded by Dr. Henry M. Goldman in 1963. GSDM is into the 4th year of a new era, which we declared during the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the Founding of our School in 2013, in which we will truly achieve greatness as a School of Dental Medicine and realize our vision of becoming the premier Center of Excellence in Education, Research, Patient Care and Community Service within the United States and throughout the world.
You should be very proud of yourselves and your fellow students who are among a select few to be chosen to pursue their dental education at Boston University! For those of you enrolled in the four-year Doctor of Dental Medicine Program, you were selected from among 4,000 applicants. For those of you enrolled in the Advanced Standing / Doctor of Dental Medicine Program, you were selected from among 1250 applicants.”
- At the 10th annual Ice Cream Social and Student Information Fair later that afternoon in the Hiebert Lounge, incoming students were able to create their own sundaes, socialize with faculty and staff, and visit various organizations and companies’ information booth.
- DMD 20 and AS DMD 18 students were particularly impressed with a special appearance from Rhett!

The health and well being of my patients will be my first consideration.
